It’s raining, it’s pouring - and

tremendous convenience for you, but offer a welcome to your visitors, and an
extra marketing value to your property. Find out how, and what the choices
are when it comes to choosing a door canopy.

If ever there was a way to turn a
house into a welcoming home, then door canopies and entrance canopies are
likely to be it. Not only is having an entrance canopy an attractive feature,
but there are many practical and financial benefits from having one fitted.
Imagine, for example, arriving home from work in the pouring rain. You have
your laptop under one arm, a pile of papers in the other, rooting about for
your key whilst standing on your doorstep in the rain getting thoroughly soaked
and feeling dismal.
Now imagine arriving home, and stepping quickly under your new entrance canopy.
You can put your bag on the doorstep, protected from the rain, while you are
able to locate your key and open your door without trying to dance in between
the raindrops. Now imagine the difference a door canopy will make to your
visitors. There is no doubt at all that a welcoming porch or canopy says a good
deal about how you consider your guests, and generates a warm, inviting feel
right from the beginning.
Not only that, but when the doorbell rings now, and you know it’s raining, do
you drop everything, tear to the door and almost pull it off the hinges in
order to spare your guests too much of a soaking? With entrance canopies this
need no longer be the case. If the doorbell rings, and you’re not quite ready,
you won’t need to panic, knowing that your guests are already sheltered. With a
light fitted into the underneath of door canopies a real atmosphere can be
generated of warmth, shelter and friendship.
Considering the low cost involved, the ease with which entrance canopies can be
fitted, and the fact that they require virtually no maintenance, it really is
one of the easiest ways of adding character and charm to your home, not to
mention adding a great deal of practical convenience for you and those who may
be visiting your home.
Then of course there’s always the financial aspect to consider. Not the cost of
having a door canopy fitted, since this is extremely affordable, and even the
fitting is cheap since the materials involved are manufactured to create an
exact fit, are lightweight and easily erected. The financial implications are
in the increase given to the value of your home. With a row of virtually
identical houses, having a welcoming, practical and attractive entrance canopy
above your front door or rear door will set your home apart from others. From
the point of view of kerb appeal and property marketing, a door canopy makes a
great deal of sense.
As far as materials are concerned, an entrance or door canopy can be made from
a number of different materials, such as wood, metal, PVC or GRP. Glass
reinforced plastic is perhaps the most suitable of all, for several good
reasons. Timber constructed canopies may look fabulous when first assembled,
but there are problems. In the first instance timber takes longer to assemble
and construct, weighs more, and requires more time and manpower to fit. Once
assembled, it will take a good deal of maintenance, including painting and
varnishing every year or so in order to protect it and keep it from looking
shabby. Even by taking great care you can expect a timber canopy to become
warped, split or crack as a result of the weather we can expect in this
country.
Metal canopies may not warp or crack, but they are also heavy, take much longer
to build, and are very expensive. They will require regular maintenance to
protect them and you can anticipate rusting over time. However, GRP canopies
are constructed from a special material which combines the tensile strength of
glass with the waterproof, lightweight flexibility of plastic. This creates a
material which can be easily moulded to create custom made entrance and door
canopies which fit perfectly and will ensure a watertight seal.
With virtually no maintenance required other than an occasional blast with the
hosepipe or a quick wipe with a sponge, you can be sure that your GRP door
canopy will stay looking smart, clean and attractive for a very long time,
offering you and your guests an inviting entrance to your home for very little
cost, and almost no disruption. Being lightweight and easily assembled it very
often only needs one person to fit, saving you time, money and inconvenience.
Whether it’s for personal convenience, a homely welcome for your guests, a
marketing feature or simply your way of making your home as unique on the
outside as it is on the inside, there’s almost no easier or more economical way
to make a difference to your home than by adding door canopies or entrance
canopies. Although once fitted you need never think about it again, you almost
certainly will - every time you arrive home in the rain!
